Your ledger

Bookkeeping software in Nigeria that keeps the ledger current

Every sale, payment and expense posts as it happens, so the ledger reflects today rather than the last time somebody sat down with a spreadsheet.

  • Entries come from the work

Raising an invoice or receiving a payment writes the entry, with the document attached to it.

  • Matched, not retyped

Incoming payments match against what is owed, so your records and your balance agree on their own.

  • Reports whenever you want them

Profit and loss, balances and cash position built from the same entries, at any point in the month.

Month end

A close that is a review rather than a rebuild

The work that usually fills the first week of a month has already happened by the time you get there.

  • Nothing waiting to be entered

Transactions are already posted and categorised, so closing is checking rather than catching up.

  • A trail behind every figure

Each entry keeps its source document and who touched it, which is what turns a query into a two minute answer.

  • Your accountant sees the same thing

Give them their own access instead of exporting a file and answering questions about it for a week.

Built for how it works here

The parts imported software usually gets wrong

Bookkeeping is not a universal problem with a universal answer. These five decide whether a system is usable here or merely impressive in a demo.

Tax your customer deducted before paying
Corporate customers commonly withhold tax at source. The invoice arrives short, and in most systems it stays open forever. Here the deduction is recorded against that invoice, so the balance closes and the credit is kept as evidence.
VAT at 7.5 percent, with real exemptions
Set the rate per product and mark exempt items as exempt. The period total assembles itself from what you actually invoiced rather than from a percentage of turnover.
Cash that never touched an account
A large share of trading is still cash, and a ledger that only sees electronic money will never reconcile. Cash sales, cash purchases and the daily count post to the same place as everything else.
Transfers with a narration that says nothing
A payment described as three letters and a date tells you nothing about which invoice it settles. Invoices carry their own account numbers, so the money arrives already attached to what it pays for.
Diesel, transport, levies and the rest
Real operating costs that no imported chart of accounts anticipates. Categories are yours to set, so margin is measured against what running this business actually costs.
What you get

What is in it

Enough to run the books of a small or growing business without a second system, and without a bookkeeper on staff.

Automatic double entry

Every transaction posts both sides. You never have to decide which account takes which.

Documents on entries

The receipt, invoice or payslip sits on the entry it belongs to, not in a separate folder.

A chart of accounts you can shape

Start from a sensible default, then rename and add until it matches how you think about the business.

Live profit and loss

For the month, the quarter or the year, without closing the period first.

Balance sheet

What the business owns and owes, moved by the trading rather than typed in.

Cash position

Across your accounts and the cash on hand, as one figure you can act on.

VAT and WHT reporting

Period totals that trace back to the individual invoices behind them.

Accountant access

A role scoped to the books, a clean export, or both.

Books per location

Separate books per branch with a group view above them, on the same chart of accounts.

Questions

Questions about bookkeeping software in Nigeria

The questions that come up before anybody moves their books. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

What is the best bookkeeping software in Nigeria?

The honest test is not the feature list, it is whether the books stay current in a month when nobody has time. That means the entry has to be created by the transaction rather than typed afterwards, cash has to be treated as seriously as transfers, and tax deducted at source has to be recordable. Niimbu was built around those three, and there is a free plan so you can judge it against your own trading rather than against a demo.

Do I need an accountant if I use bookkeeping software?

For filing and for judgement calls, yes, and good software makes them cheaper rather than unnecessary. What changes is what you are paying them for: reviewing and advising rather than reconstructing twelve months from a carrier bag of receipts.

Can it handle VAT and withholding tax?

Yes. VAT is set per product and applied as you sell, then totalled for the period. Withholding tax deducted by a customer is recorded against the invoice it was deducted from, so the invoice closes at the right amount and you keep the evidence of the deduction.

Does it work if most of my sales are cash?

Yes, and this is where a lot of imported software falls down. Cash sales, cash purchases and the daily count all post to the same ledger as card and transfer payments, and the difference between expected and counted is shown at close rather than discovered at year end.

How is this different from a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet is fine until two people need the same version on the same day, or until you need the receipt behind a figure from March. The entries here are created by the transaction and carry their document, and several people can be in the books at once without producing three versions of the truth.

Can my accountant get access?

Yes. Roles let you give an accountant or bookkeeper access to the books without exposing payroll, supplier pricing or anything else they do not need. Access is removed in one action when the engagement ends.

What does bookkeeping software cost in Nigeria?

Here it starts free, with no setup fee and no minimum contract. Paid tiers begin when your monthly volume passes the free limits, and the full plan comparison is on the pricing page.
